How the Matching Grant Program Works

The following program changes are effective with the 2016-2017 school fiscal year (July 1) .

Changes to SAFE Program restructures matching grant amount

Program changes effective for the 2016-2017 school fiscal year

Why the realignment

Back to School Clothing Drive (BTSCD) has restructured its unique school-focused matching grant program to now offer a 50 percent match on money spent by schools through our SAFE online retail store.  The match is only available as long as there is matching funds AND if you shop in our online retail store.  The amount of funding varies from year-to-year and is dependent upon the amount received from investors/donors to carry out the program.

In addition to this realignment, there is no longer any carryover balance of grant funds from prior years. All unused grant funds from have been sunset.

The BTSCD SAFE Matching Grant Program remains the only of its kind in Arizona available to schools to purchase school uniforms for their clothing closets. We thank you for your continued support of the program and remain committed to providing you with the maximum amount of funding available to leverage your dollars dedicated to the purchase of school uniforms and clothing.

50 percent match on your money spent

Shopping in the SAFE Store is easier than ever. Coupon Codes are not necessary and will no longer apply. As of September 2016 Title 1 schools receive a 50% increase (match) on your money to purchase at great savings, through our store. You'll see the savings immediately as you shop. When you complete your order, you owe the balance displayed and our grant pays for the rest - meaning you may spend $1,000 but you are receiving $1,500 worth of merchandise, because we reduced your cost-per-item and our matching grant covers the difference.

Back to School requests a minimum purchase of $500 or more, per order and a maximum of $5,000. If you have a large purchase which exceeds $5,000 please contact our office for approval.

We recommend you spend a portion of your funds allocated for school clothing in two increments – Fall and Spring, however, you may spend all of your money at one time should you choose.

Shipping Costs Added

Shipping costs are now added to each order and is $20.00 for EACH order. The shipping cost should be factored into the overall purchase or however your school/district handles shipping charges.

New pricing

We have implemented new pricing on our uniforms for the 2016-2017 school year. Districts that have a current contract or RFP pricing in place with BTSCD will remain at those prices and will be billed at those contract prices and settled at invoicing.

Who qualifies for the SAFE program?

Title I public elementary schools are eligible to participate in the SAFE Matching Grant Program. Funding for the program varies annually depending upon donor investments. If all funds are committed at the time you open your account, your school will be placed on the waiting list and notified once funds are available. Schools may still buy merchandise through our online retail store while you are on the waiting list.

 How do I get started?

If you are new to the program, you are required to set up an account in the store at  Returning buyers enter their username and password. Setting up an account speeds up the shopping process. If you are a new administrator for the program, taking over for someone else, please contact our office for help in setting up your profile.

Schools will still need to acquire a Purchase Order (PO) from their district in order to complete their orders. Schools can enter their orders while at the same time acquiring their PO number. However, to complete and ship your order, you must email the copy of your Purchase Order to us at We no longer accept faxed Purchase orders.

Enter your district Accounts Payable as the "bill to" address. IMPORTANT: The ship-to address should match with the ship-to address on the purchase order (per the requirements from the school district).

Once you complete your order and Back to School Clothing Drive has the Purchase Order, the order is fulfilled and sent to your school or district. Invoices for your merchandise are sent directly to your school district Accounts Payable address.

All orders are charged at $20 flat shipping rate per order which is inclusive of your ordered amount and should be factored into your Purchase Order limits.

Paying for your Order

Once your merchandise is received, payments are due net 15 days to Back to School Clothing Drive by sending the check 360 E. Coronado Road, Suite 200, Phoenix, AZ 85004.
